we are a part of digital world, we all are dealing with variety of open-source
softwares in our day-today life, such as operating systems, android softwares for chat and video
streaming, VLC players, Mozilla firefox for browsing. In technical terms, if
someone ask us what is open source
software? Even though we
are utilizing open source software, but still we are not able to define it. In
this blog, we will discuss about open source, proprietary software with all its
perk and how an open-source software motivates starter developer.
Open source
softwares
comes in the category of those softwares whose source code are freely available
to anyone for performing their own modifications, redistribution. These
software are becoming standard in world wide web and organisations. Their
demands are increasingly day by day in mainstreams IT organisations.
Lets go towards proprietary software and how one can
differentiate it with open source software.
proprietary softwares: These software are owned by a
particular company. They does not permit anyone to duplicate or modify their
code. Users need to pay if they want to use them.
Major Differences
The
major difference between an open source software and proprietary software is
their license. Users must have a licence in order to access proprietary
software and they are strictly prohibited for modifications where as an open
source software can permit modification and redistributions, Users are free to
install it on any platform without need of paying a single penny. Due to these
reasons, open source softwares are ideal for users.
